Terp Young Scholars Summer Program in Geographical Sciences
A pre-college program that allows high school students to navigate college experience by taking a 3-credit course over the summer at UMD.
- The Terp Young Scholars Program is designed for rising 10th graders to graduating 12th graders.
- Students choose (1) 3-credit course to enroll in.
- Both credits and the grade earned post to the student's UMD transcript and become part of their student record.
2024's GEOG Class 🛰️🌎
- GEOG 172: Earth From Space: Learn how Earth observations from space play a critical role in understanding our changing planet, with guest lecturers from NASA, NOOA, Maryland Department of Environment, Maryland Department of Natural Resources and more. Topics include how satellites view Earth; what they can observe, and what significant problem they can help solve.
How The Program Works

- Students attend class, study, work on projects, prepare for exams, and interact with their peers and regular UMD undergraduate students in a rigorous academic setting
